Barksie is our collaborative partner artist behind the brush in these beautiful dog portraits. With a love for abstract realism and conveying emotional expression, their ability to capture a dogs individual character is second to none. Working with mediums such as acrylics and gouache, each piece is intuitively created in rich themes of colour.

This ain't no AI, computer generated print. It's a one of a kind, unique work of art.

How does it work?

Creating your custom portrait is all about you and your doggo. Here's how it works:

1. Choose your favourite photos- Got a couple of photos that are your absolute faves? Let's paint one of them. Once your order is submitted send through min 3-4 of your favourite photos. They should be as front on as possible and be well lit. Submit them on the forms with the yellow buttons above. Need some help? No worries at all, we can give you a hand.

2. Tell us your favourite colours- Using the drop down boxes tell us your 2 favourite colours. The artist will use shades of these colours, and their experience in colour theory to complete the piece with a third colour. *Please note the third shade will be at the artist discretion to best capture the undertones in the piece.

3. Submit your order- Submit your order and the artist will get to work. Please allow up to 10 calendar days for your piece to be completed. We'll send you a sneak peak during the creative process so that you can see your portrait coming to life.

4. Receive your portrait- Once completed and given a final quality check we pack your artwork with care for shipment. Your canvas will be packed in corrugated cardboard for safe transit. Double wall, folded corners, corrugated insert and lid.
*DON'T cut through the cardboard when you receive it
*DO capture your reaction of seeing your portrait for the first time - make a loved one useful and have them film you.

what's included?

Wrapped canvas artwork, stretched onto a timber frame. Premium canvas, acrylics and finishing vanish for that extra pop.

why do i choose colours?

We want to you be part of the creative process - it is yours forever after all! The artist uses a greyscale process to analyse light, shadows and undertones that are not visible to the naked eye. This process helps identify the photo with the best results. From here the artist uses their experience in colour theory to complete the piece with a third complimentary colour.

can you help me choose a photo?

We sure can. In fact we encourage sending more than 1 photo. Having some options can ensure the artist can deliver the best possible results. If you are interested to know if a particular photo you love will make a great portrait, send your photo to topdog@dogsht.com.auand we can do a free colour analysis.

I was expecting to pay less

Totally fair question, and we get it. It’s more than a quick print or a digital sketch. Each portrait is a one of a kind, original artwork painted by hand in collaboration with our artist, Barksie. It’s done on 20" x 16" canvas using professional-grade acrylics and gouache, and we stretch it on to a timber frame for you.

You’re commissioning an artwork that captures your dog’s personality, quirks, and spirit in a way no template or ai generated print ever could. It takes hours of work, real creative talent, and it’s made to keep a very special ode to them, at home long after the sad day they're gone.

what if it gets damaged?

Once the artwork is home, we trust you'll take good care of it! Please follow the opening parcel instructions above.

how do i look after it?

Gently dust the surface with a dry, soft cloth or a clean, dry makeup brush. Avoid using water, sprays, or cleaning products as these can damage the paint or warp the canvas. Always hang it somewhere out of direct sunlight to stop fading over time.

Processing time: We're committed to fulfil your custom order within 14 days of your order being placed. As your artwork is made to order , by placing an order you acknowledge the fulfilment times.

Order placement & creation:

Day 0-2: Photo selection and greyscale analysis

Day 2-6: Creative brilliance gets under way

Day 7-10 (no later than): You'll receive progress report of your portrait. How exciting!

Day 10-14: Final touches are done on your portrait before being packed for shipment

Click and Collect: Yep - we have in-store Click and Collect at our South Melbourne Market Store. Please note the trading hours. Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday 8am to 4pm, Friday 8am to 5pm. Orders placed on market days are ready in 1 hour. Orders outside of this are available the next trading day.We'll send you an email notification when your order is available for collection. Remember to bring your confirmation email for pickup.

Exchanges/Returns: We hope you love your one of a kind portrait when it arrives at your doorstep. There are no reimbursed returns or exchanges on this item for change of mind.
